Crew from Merrillville Stations 4 and 1 were dispatched to a possible apartment fire at 320 w 59th, pd confirmed a working fire. Station 2 was requested to the scene along with Lake Ridge with an engine at that point. PD advised 3 people were on the 3rd floor and 2 on the 2nd floor. All rescues were made quickly and without incident. The crews quickly brought the fire under control and searched the remaining apartments for possible victims. One firefighter was transported for smoke inhalation due to running out of oxygen in the fire. Awesome job by all

This is a Firefighter Training Prop that can be used to practice various techniques from basic skills to advanced rescue and survival procedures. The prop is very inexpensive and can be built for as little as $150 - Depending on the quality of materials used. It's also extremely portable as there isn't one component that's longer than 8 feet or wider than 4 feet, so it can be transported in the back of a pickup truck and set up anywhere. The prop can be assembled or broken down in minutes with only 1 -2 Firefighters. I designed and built this prop myself, but I have NO patents or patents pending - So if you like it, feel free to build one for your department. Firefighters risk their lives every time they run into a burning building. But, new technology may soon be watching their backs, no matter how far they venture into the flames and smoke. With support from the National Science Foundation, TRX systems is developing a new sensor system that can track firefighters where GPS units often fail. Firefighters who are currently testing the new system wear a portable device called the Sentrix tracking unit, which is actually a suite of sensors that can be tracked on laptop computers. TRX CEO Carole Politi says the system can be adapted for tracking miners, soldiers, and other first responders who go inside buildings where GPS won't work. Politi says the sensor system is designed to save valuable time, as well as lives.

Moments before the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in the small town of Padua, Minnesota, was about to begin, a truck fire broke out at the end of the block. Fortunately, the all-volunteer firefighting crew from nearby Sedan, Minnesota, was on hand to celebrate their 125th anniversary and to raise money to pay for their new fire hall and truck; one of their members was set to drive the city's new fire truck in the parade and the others were on a float dressed in drag to entertain the crowd. When a truck erupted in flames, people called 911 to alert the fire department that was assigned to that jurisdiction; but that crew was 15 miles away and some members of the general public were already attempting to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers, which can be exceptionally dangerous. When the blaze spread to an SUV, the Sedan crew decided to take action to prevent possible injuries as well as further damage to additional vehicles or to the surrounding fields and crop land. So the Sedan firefighters, still in drag, grabbed equipment from their truck and put out the blaze in two minutes, some of them adjusting their brightly colored dresses as they did so. Yes, it was dangerous for these firefighters to do what they did, but in my mind they are heroes.
