In this tutorial, I explain different ways we can optimize our solve times, however, focus on the easier of the F2L (First Two Layers) cases. These cases should give you an idea of how to Solve a Rubik's Cube Faster once you have practiced a bit. Some ways of becoming faster, these are broken down into two categories: Physical: - Buying a Speedcube (many speedcubers, including myself recommend Type A) - Lubricate your cube. I recommend CRC Heavy Duty Silicone, but I have also heard from various speedcubers that Jig-A-Loo works well also. - Practice Finger Tricks. You can't go very far moving each face with your entire hand, so exercise those pointer fingers! Mental: - Memorization of different algorithms, eg F2L algorithms, OLL, PLL, etc. - Understanding how the cube works. You need to know what you can and cannot do. When you mess up the cross, you need to be sure to fix it. When lifting pieces or "hiding" pieces (in this tutorial), you need to be careful not to break up other pieces, etc. In THIS tutorial, I will mainly focus on explaining different types of F2L cases in which the corner and the edge piece it needs to match up with are on the TOP/UP layer. Once you have found (or corrected using the R T180 Ri), you must match the other adjacent color to white (not on top again, but on the side) with its corresponding color diagonally. Now hold the center of the color that you just matched the white corner diagonally with and the white sticker should either be on the left or right face. Then you must perform the following moves: If white facing left, do Li Ti L (Li = left quarter turn counter-clockwise, L = left quarter turn clockwise), If white facing right, do RT Ri. You must do this for all four corners. IMPORTANT: When fixing corner pieces which have white facing UP,you must place it above the last empty corner space on bottom before doing the R T180 Ri or Li T180 L moves. On Sunday, May 4th, 2003, I jumped tandem (with an instructor) from 12000 feet. This gave me only 30-40 seconds of freefall before we had to open the chute, which would be plenty of time in my living room, but it's a different story when you're hurtling toward the earth at 130 miles per hour (209 Km per hour)! I drilled a hole in one of the corner pieces, and tied the cube to my wrist in case I couldn't hold on to it. I trained a few times by leaning out of a car at 80 MPH on the highway. This was my first time jumping, but I actually was not very nervous about the skydiving part... I was only worried about whether or not I could do the cube. VH1 paid for me to jump, and they had a second camera-man diving next to us filming the whole thing. In the end, it took me about 32 seconds using the Fridrich method, no skipped steps, 8-turn orientation, 13-turn permutation.
